Well thats that then

There has been a bit of a lull in the posting of items on here lately, this has been due to a bit of a quiet period in games, however there have been 2 games this week, on tuesday night the lads went away to Featherstone where they played a friendly against a good Featherstone lions side and were beaten 28-16, they gave a very good account of themselves and this was a good work out for the important game which was to come today (21 4 07)
We played against Myton warriors in the group cup and a lot hinged on this game, if we won we went through to the final against East Hull, however things didnt quite go to plan and we were beaten 40 points to nil, there was a nasty injury to Ash (R) in the first half and he received treatment for a good 5 minutes or so before having to go off. The good news was it was a bang to the head so it shouldnt do any damage (where there is no sense there is no feeling)............only joking ash, i hope you feel better soon.
This defeat signals the end of the season and to be honest i dont think the season could end soon enough for a very depleted and injury ravaged bunch of lads.
You have all done very well this year boys and lets hope when next season starts we might be a little bit better and a little more equipped in the way of a few more signings to give a little bit of back up for when the injuries come.

A big thank you should be said to Carol who today informed the boys that she will be leaving us as coach (the worst kept secret in rugby league) after doing a sterling job for so long, she will be handing over the reigns to Lee from next season.
I think all the team and parents owe carol a big debt of thanks for the hard work she has done on behalf of the team and i personally didnt appreciate how much she does actually do until i got a little more involved, she might now have a little more time to spend with her family.
Lets all get behind Lee and give him our support, and im sure we will still see carol around the place so she wont be leaving us all together but she might be able to enjoy the games in a different way as "just" a parent of a player. (hands up all those who think she will be able to stand quiet on the touchline and just watch the game quietly) not many hands up there then!!!!

Well done boys.

I have just heard that 4 members of our team were selected for trials for the Hull under12s service area. KIERAN (B) ASH (R) SIMON and CALVIN. Two of the boys, kieran and calvin were actually picked to go forward so to all the 4 boys well done, its nice when people recognise the boys efforts and i would just like to say that these boys may have been chosen but i think all the boys in the team should take credit because without them playing their part then they would not have had the platform to show what they could do, dont forget boys it is a team game and whatever you go on to do in this game without a team you have got nothing, so never criticise anyone for not being the best player in the world, as long as they try their best they are not letting you down. Once again lads well done.

Absolutely fantastic.

I turned up at yesterdays game to be told that we only had 11 players this week! the injury jinx has struck yet again this week with another suspected broken bone, Dom has gone to the hospital to have his arm looked at as it looks like it is broken after a trampolining accident yesterday, Anyway on the pitch it didnt look good, we were playing skirlaugh who can be a very good side and we had 2 players less than them, plus all the substitutes they could bring on the field to give players rests. The game started disaterously after an error in our own 25 yard area gave skirlaugh a walk in and then the goal made it 6-0 after about 2 minutes, the writing seemed to be on the wall at this point.
Some shuddering tackles by the mighty Ed brought beverley back into the game and this was really shaking skirlaugh.
All the boys were getting stuck in and it was only justice when Calvin went three quarters of the pitch to score with joe kicking the goal to make it 6-6.
A skirlaugh try just before half time made it 10-6.
The boys came off at half time to be told that despite the 2 man shortage this was a game that was there for the taking.
Ash (R) took a knock to the foot just before half time but had to play on because there was no one to replace him.
The second half was unbelievable, the lads tackled hard, ran hard and a special mention needs to be made to Ash, he played through the pain barrier, going down a few times in agony with his injury, but he kept getting up again and played a sort of full back cum half back cum loose forward role (god knows what it was but it worked) all the boys tried their hearts out and even when skirlaugh scored again to make the score 16-6 they never gave in, the 11 men of beverley looked the better team for long spells and i must admit they didnt get alot of help from the stand in referee (skirlaughs coach) some high shots seemed to go unpunished and a few beverley players were feeling the effects of these.
One thing that must be commented on and i was as proud as punch about this was again Ash, he is known to be a hothead and sometimes this spoils his game a little bit, well yesterday he was starting to get wound up and i must admit i did fear the worst when the skirlaugh number 3 seemed to square up to him but Ash showed great control in just turning around and walking away, this alone was one of the best bits of the game for me, keep it up mate we need you on the pitch not sent off and watching it from the side.
Anyway back to the game, beverley kept pressing and were rewarded by a great try from winger Ben who has took to the game big style and is a good acquisition to the team, Ed hit the post with the kick and the game finally ended with a 16-10 scoreline in skirlaughs favour, but the moral victory was with beverley.
the next game is a play off game on the 15th and hopefully we might have 2 or 3 of the boys back by then, and lets hope a team of 13 plays as well as this team of 11 heros did.

Unlucky lads.

Today Beverley played against East Hull, the recent injury jinx which has robbed us of numerous players struck again this week as Ash (H) was injured in an accident involving a badminton raquet at school so joined the list of players unable to play, we were therefore only able to raise 12 players for this game which always promised to be a tough fixture against the team that we arguably put up our best performance of the season against a few weeks ago.
We were beaten 12-4 but under the circumstances this looks like a very good performance and im sure without the growing band of wounded we might well have recorded a double over a strong East Hull outfit.
with no substitutes to call upon we can only praise all the players for keeping going until the last and surely this shows some promise for the future.

summer rugby my a**e

Super league is now 6 weeks into the season, and the game is now supposed to be a summer game.
Beverley went to Norland today to play the game which has been postponed twice previously because of an unfit pitch.
you are in for a treat here, I'm going to commentate on the game in its entirety.
Norland kick off and Beverley advance down the pitch before a nice passing move sends Calvin in for a nice try just to the left of the sticks.
Ash (H) was given the kicking duties because of the injury to Kieran (B), Ellis had to eventually hold the ball for him so he could kick it because of the howling wind, the kick was unsuccessful.
Norland tried to restart but the weather was that bad with hailstone sweeping into their faces that the referee took the players off for a few minutes to allow the conditions to improve.
The game restarted after about 10 minutes, Norland kicked off and Beverley took the ball forward, With a couple more minutes on the clock, the weather was that bad that the referee took the players off again and the game was abandoned.
Maybe we just are not destined to play Norland this season.
Just one thing to mention.................there is no training on tuesday and the weekend session is at longcroft on SATURDAY this week.
