Next Game

Sunday Morning at the Bilton Memorial ground 10:15 kick off.

Bilton sullys v Beverley Braves

Last time these two teams met Beverley won by 2 points, we are 4th in the league, Bilton are 3rd, 2 points ahead, so this is going to be a tight game.

Sunday, 28 January 2007

Ah well, they tried.

West Hull 26 Beverley Braves 6

Straight from the kick off Beverley put themselves under pressure by knocking the ball on, then from the resulting scrum Wests broke away and scored, the kick was successful and the score was 6-0.For the rest of the first half it was a good defensive performance from the lads and they managed to score a try and only conceded another one to go in at half time 10-6 down.
The second half saw the introduction of Calvin who had to sit out the first half after taking a knock in the pre game warm up, he added some steel to the defence in the middle.
As time went on, Wests gradually took control and were just too fast and strong for the Braves.
This result however is another stride forward, as we have now managed to keep Wests to a score below 30, next game lets see if we can get them below 20!
Well done lads for a good gutsy performance, One down side was an injury to Liam, who looks like he has injured a knee ligament.
Again Ed took the game to Wests and was aided by the other forwards, Simon was a Revelation in the tackle department and Ash (R) never stopped trying. Wests never, in my opinion, scored a good try all game, all the tries they got were long range tries where people backed off and allowed them to run, if the lads could get over this fear of West Hull, and actually tackle the big lads when they run at them from deep we might be able to spring a shock.

Stern test.

This sunday sees a very hard test for the newly arranged team formation that worked so well last week, Beverley Braves play the unbeaten West Hull team on their home pitch at Beverley Longcroft school (k.o 10:15).
The lads were buzzing after last weeks performance, and im sure that if they can repeat that performance then they will give Wests a good game.
Carol has set them the target of winning the first half to start with, last week they were like greyhounds out of the traps, the speed was awesome in the first half, lets see how they do against the best defence in the league, although East Hull were no slouches, we just totally out powered them.
All we need to do is make sure all the team do their jobs to the best of their ability, a big ask here is for everyone to listen in training and not mess as a couple of people were doing last week, everyone needs to be fully focussed and know the size of the ask. We can push these all the way we just need to believe in ourselves, the forwards need to hunt as a pack, and the backs need to tackle like demons, just as they proved they can last week, we need to follow the man with the ball and always give him the options to offload, keep in a line when defending and keep the tackles down.......it may be an old saying but it is still true...................THEY CANT GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT THEIR LEGS. discipline needs to be tip top, and we need to hold onto the ball, dont give wests more ball than they deserve, give them respect but dont be scared of them.
good luck lads.

What a difference a week makes.

WOW!! What a performance today, We looked a totally different side to the last few games. In the first half the lads scored 5 unanswered tries to lead by 22 points to nil at half time.
The second half was a little more even with East Hull coming back strongly and the final score was 26-4 to a very good Beverley side.
This was expected to be a tough game and i must admit I was half expecting another defeat as East Hull are a side that can give a good hammering on their day. But Beverley totally blitzed them in the first half, At half time the team had made a total of 16 tackles!! this shows their superiority and how much of the ball they had had.
All the lads that had moved positions played really well and looked like they had played there for years. Kieran added speed to the middle and did really well.
Lewis fitted in at full back like a veteran, Ashley (h) did well when he came on, but as a whole everyone did really well.
The resurgance of East Hull in the second half coincided with the period of time Ed was off the pitch and once again he led the forwards like a man possessed, ably assisted by the other forwards. Lee has got them believing that they are the best pack in the league, and they looked it today. good performances again from Calvin, always probing, solid in defence, and the wingers also tackled well . they might not have got a lot of ball but the defence was as important as the attacking threat.
WELL DONE LADS.

Calvin with a good tackle

Ellis getting in on the act

here, james believed he had scored his first ever try for the club, only to have it disallowed by the referee.

Ash (R) tries to offload.

Welcome back Lee

Was nice to see Lee back at training last night,( along with Liam), after his spell of injury and holidays, Maybe now we will see the forwards starting to fire again, after a few weeks of indecision, if last night was anything to go by he had them fired up again.

This weekends game will be a tough one against East Hull, and will be played at Beverley Longcroft School, Sunday morning, 10:15 Kick off,

Carol is looking at a couple of positional changes, lets see if this injects new life into the team and hopefully we can kick on with a good end to the season

Heres a little insight into the players.

just a little look at each player, if ive missed anyone out, im sorry let me know and ill put it right.

Kieran(b), full back.

This lad is lightening fast, a solid tackler, good goal kicker and a very popular lad. When you need a try out of nothing, kierans your lad

Harry, winger

A tough tackling strong running lad, who defies his build, there is nothing on him but he is a solid kid.

Jack, centre

Reliable strong tough boy, does his job effectively but quietly, doesn’t do anything flashy but is a very good player

Lewis, centre

Another lad that is built slightly, but don’t let that fool you, he is as strong as an ox in defence and attack, another lad who goes about his work quietly but very effectively.

Joe, winger

Coming on in leaps and bounds, a very reliable lad to have on the wing, won’t ever let you down.

Calvin, off half

Calvin is the man that makes things tick, he is the captain and is a born organiser, he makes a lot of ground every time he gets the balls, is always looking for the off load and is strong in defence.

Ash (h), scrum half

Gets things moving at the base of the scrum, a quiet lad who will always give you 100%

Ed, prop

The baby of the team, you wouldn’t believe to look at him that he is a year younger than all the other lads, he is a giant of a player who has a big future, will never take a backward step.

Simon, hooker

Simon can go a long way in this game, although I’m not convinced it will be at hooker, he is a good hooker but I think he will eventually move to the half backs where his speed and distribution skills will be more appreciated.

Craig, prop

Will run all day, never gives in, always there with the drive and is always looking to offload in the tackle

Dieter, second row

Just a solid hard working forward, nothing flashy about dieter, what you see is what you get, and a smashing lad.

Dom, second row

For dom read dieter, again another hard working lad who will never let you down, if I have one criticism of dom and dieter it might be that they are too nice, but they are good strong forwards.

Ash ( r), loose forward

If dom and dieter are too nice then ash is mr nasty! A great lad under it all, a smashing player, will tackle all day, will take the ball in all day and wont let anyone get the better of him.

James, prop

Has just moved into the forwards from the wing, quite a switch but he is learning all the time, a strong runner and a reliable lad.

Ellis, winger

Another player with no meat on him but as solid as a rock, wont ever let you down.

Liam, second row

Very strong running forward, good in defence, can also play at hooker as well as second row.

Kieran (h), second row

When I first saw Kieran was in the forwards I was shocked, this kid is 2 stone ringing wet but he punches well above his weight, wont let anyone down and does everything asked of him.

Callum, centre/winger

A quiet lad, no trouble at all, a dependable able lad both in attack and defence, another to do evrything simply and without fuss

The coach, Carol

She might be a woman, but dont let that fool you, she takes no messing off the lads and has a very good knowledge of the game, she is doing a great job and the players seem to listen if not always putting things into practise on the pitch.

Assistant coach, Lee

again like carol, he has a good knowledge of the game, he has a way of getting things across to the lads in a way that they seem to like, he can make them see things they are missing, a very good defensive coach.

3rd loss!!!

In a match against a much bigger set of lads on a very boggy cropton road pitch, Beverley lost by 10 points to 4.
The first half was a very even affair with beverley just about deserving their 4-0 lead, the defence was a big improvement from last week although towards the end of the game we had started to slip back into old ways, there were some good performances with perhaps the pick being calvin and ed, although everyone tried really hard.
we need to cut out little things from our game, things like kicking on the third tackle and controlling tempers a little better, although this was 100% better than last week.

try Calvin.

Man of the match Ed

Next game

The next game for the braves takes place this coming sunday at cropton road on the bricknell estate,
The game is against Hull wyke and should prove a tough encounter, but im sure the lads will be up to the challenge.
The braves are still sitting in second place in the league having only lost two games so far this season.
Kick off against wyke is at 10:15

Sunday, 7 January 2007

Another good win.

Todays result was a good win to the braves, the score was Sutton trust Lambwath 0 Beverley Braves 20, this was another good team performance but perhaps the score flatters beverley a little.
Sutton trust were a very good strong running hard tackling side who were let down a little in the final part of the pitch, and had they had alittle more finishing skill could have troubled the braves a little more.

Try scorers for the braves were:
Kieran (B)
Calvin
Simon
Dom

Goals: Kieran (B) 2

Man of the match: Jack

Well done lads everyone played well, special note to Ash (R) keep it going but channel the aggression!!!!

Next match

The boys return to action on sunday, When they play Sutton trust Lambwath. Game kicks off at 10:15 at Shelly avenue on the sutton trust estate.

Was nice to see the popular figure of Ed back at training tonight, lets hope all the issues can be sorted out and this can be a permanent return.
Heres hoping for a successful outcome all round, with all parties coming to an amicable conclusion to this matter, lets not forget what this is all about.........11 and 12 year old lads enjoying themselves.

The boys played a game against the u 13s tonight at the end of training, i must admit they looked a little out of their depth, but this team is a very strong well drilled set of lads and in the end they were beginning to get stuck in a little.

good luck for sunday boys, im sure you will do it and keep up the title challenge on West Hull.
